    Sleep Vote

I see valid points from both sides. Whilst on the server I've seen most of the complaints are 'resource sleep?' I also get the point that honestly, if this was employed, the whole server would pretty much remain in day. So what about something like allowing its use in the resource worlds, but not the main server. That way you may farm in relative peace in the resource world but when in the main world you return to being a slave of the inevitability of the passage of time. Hi Zach, please try to keep topic replies on topic 🙂

Oooh I like this idea, we have thought of this for a while. Wondering what the community's thoughts are?
  5. Hello CedarCraft, There has been some recent discussion and debate into the use of automatic farms in CedarCraft - that is, farms that can generate resources for players without the need for any interaction whatsoever. When CedarCraft was first set up in 2011, when server software efficiency wasn't as good as it is now (and our hardware was much more basic), this rule banning such farms was designed around reducing the impact of such resource-heavy farms on the server and the overall user experience. This rule has always been something that has persisted across server updates. Recently however, concerns have been raised that players want the ability to freely use automatic farms, as it is part of the standard Minecraft experience. Since we've previously had no suggestions or requests to review this rule (at least not on the forums where administration can see), the banning of automatic farms has simply slipped through from map to map. After being brought to our attention, a full discussion with the staff team was held, in which it is our collective feeling that, with improved server hardware and improved server software in the 8 years we have been running, we believe we can safety allow automatic farming. As such, the rule preventing this has been removed and players are free to go wild with farm creation. When building any automatic farms, please please keep in mind our Environmental Guidelines In place of this is a rule that essentially just asks you to be mindful of the greater community when creating your automatic farms. Though there is no hard-and-fast rule, at times where server lag is becoming an issue, farms with too many entities and found to be a significant contributor will be asked to amend the farm, for the benefit of the community, at staff discretion. Additionally there may be some amendments to jobs/mcmmo for balancing purposes down the line. Thank you very much and we hope that you enjoy this change. Please feel free to leave any comments or queries in the relevant topic. JohnSF93 CedarCraft Owner

  7. Discussion for the Automatic Farms article
  8. Significant changes to natural mob spawning behaviour are being trialled for the purpose of improving user experience and making mob spawning behaviour act like single player. Before this change, mobs spawned proportional to the number of chunks loaded by the server, which itself is related to number of players online, but these mobs could spawn anywhere on the map. This meant that ‘your’ mobs (that you bring to the server total by logging in and rendering more chunks) could be spawning by someone else or in a huge farm. This meant that at times, the world may have seemed a bit barren of mobs, especially when farms are stealing the spawns. After the change, mob spawns are specifically limited to spawning around each player, like single player, and the effects of other players on the other side of the map will not affect you. This change means that you should see more mobs around you when playing, but it is likely to limit the number of mobs spawning at farms (because the huge numbers before were actually mobs "belonging" to someone else). As an example of the above (using a mob limit of 50 as an example): Old behaviour: 3 players online would mean, for argument sake, approximately 150 mobs ANYWHERE on the server. If a large mobfarm is in use, all of these mobs technically could all be there, and for everyone else the map would look bare New behaviour: Every player can have up to 50 mobs spawn in a certain radius around them. Farms on the other side of the map no longer ‘steal’ the mobs ‘belonging’ to that player. Obviously this is all theoretical and we need your feedback regarding this change after testing it for a while. Are you seeing more mobs? Fewer mobs? In what situations? Is this a positive change? In what ways can it be tweaked? Thanks and see you in game!
  9. This upcoming build competition will be in a creative world with a plot size of 64 x 64 blocks For obvious reasons this means you are unable to paste your build into the main server afterward. Instead you will be able to download your build for use locally, and also paste it to our upcoming creative server (coming soon!)
  10. As we all know well by now, voting for us daily is one of the most important things that you can do to help us in terms of bringing new faces to the community and getting our name out there. I've recently reduced the amount of sites needed to vote on daily from 5 to 3, hopefully making this less of a chore for you all. As well as this I want to improve the vote crate that you get for voting 3 times a day. Also, there is the possibility to give the top 3 (or more) voters a month their own special prizes. Please let us know what sort of things you want to see in the vote crates that you feel will make voting more worthwhile. And while you're at it, don't forget to vote! https://cedarcraft.org/vote1 https://cedarcraft.org/vote2 https://cedarcraft.org/vote3 If you really want to help us, please consider making a review on our voting pages (especially PMC, /vote3) so new players can see how we stand out. Thanks!

  13. Hello CedarCraft, Following in-depth analysis of our recent server performance, we have removed map 6 from the server and this will soon be available for download for your personal use locally. In addition, we believe that we have unfortunately found a significant source of the recent server lag spikes in the barrels plugin. As such we will be disabling all barrels on the server the upcoming Tuesday 26th May (evening, UK time). There has sadly been no easy way to automatically transfer your barrel contents into chests and so this will have to be done manually. If you are unable to do this before Tuesday, don't panic - all barrel data is saved and will remain accessible by the admins. Simply raise a /modreq and we will be able to replace your items. In better news, we have made significant updates to the server software and bug fixes to many plugins. We've purchased a new anticheat that is much better at what it does and with much less of a performance hit. The jobs system has had multiple bugs squished and all rewards for levelling up in each job are working properly now. Alchemy has also been fixed and is paying out XP/E accordingly. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this change, but our overall aim is to get back to being lag free - at which point we can start reintroducing features such as Mob and PvP arenas and other minigames. See you in game! - JohnSF93

  15. Happy Birthday CedarCraft! Today marks the EIGHTH(!) year since CedarCraft began back in 2011! And how much has much has changed over all this time! We're now on map 7 and have updated through more versions of Minecraft than we'd ever have thought possible and carried the most awesome community through all these years with us. Whether you're a relatively new member or someone who's been with us since the very start, I'm sure you'll agree that we truly have something special in the community here. I'd like to once again thank all of you for being part of CedarCraft and everything that you bring to the community here! What do you have planned over the next year, in game and IRL? What would you like to see of CedarCraft in its eighth year? For our birthday, 26th September 2019, enjoy double money and exp on all jobs, until 00:00BST tomorrow! Please continue to support the community with all of your voting, and all donations are hugely helpful in keeping the community able to run, upgrade and continue into the years to come!

  17. Hello CedarCraft! Thank you for all of your helpful suggestions so far. We've updated to 1.14 now and I'm sure you've picked up on a few bugs here and there. These are being ironed out as we go forward. Please continue too make new bug reports in the correct forum and if you're experiencing something there, please add to that thread and explain what went wrong and how as clear as possible for us. Working through the thread above, we have implemented the following changes so far. As mentioned this is completely dynamic and subject to change and tweaks at all times so that we can get it fully balanced in time. Please continue to post further thoughts and suggestions regarding improvements to the server in a new topics in the suggestions forum. We are working through suggestions (but bugs take priority at present). - - - - - - - - - - - Jobs Changes 1. The exp and money income from the mining job has been at least doubled compared to before (in some instances even more) 2. Exp and money gain is no longer relatively reduced when you have more than one job - there's no disadvantage to having more than one job now. 3. Hunter job level 50 perk is an additional 10% mcMMO exp gain towards the 'axes' skill, in addition to 'swords' and 'taming'. 4. The hunter job relative to the others had significantly better exp / money gains for time invested. Looking at a selection of players, almost invariably hunter level (and income) is usually at least double that of any other job a player may have. As such, we are nerfing hunter as shown below: Before After - - - - - - - - - - - Hope you enjoy these changes overall JohnSF93
  18. Hello CedarCraftians! You'll be glad to hear that we are now updated to 1.14.4! Along with this has come multiple updates and fixes, including changes to mcMMO and a huge increase in map size to a total of 100 million blocks in area! There remain a couple of minor issues, namely disguises and pets are not playing nicely at present, but these will be fixed as soon as we can! See you in game!

  20. Rank XI (General) and XII (Arisocrat) had their rewards accidentally swapped in game. This has now been fixed such that rewards match what /jobs browse and /help state in game: XI General – 75000 - 233500 - make a nation XII Aristocrat – 125000 - 358500 - ability to join a 4th job
  21. Towny outposts have now been enabled!
  22. We are continuing to be hard at work in getting the server updated to 1.14 as soon as possible, but also as smoothly and safely as possible. Between Minecraft 1.14.x currently having many issues, and ouur running of ~100 plugins, plenty of which need to be updated, updating is taking longer than we initially anticipated when we launched map 7. As such, the current map started smaller than we initially hoped it to be, to allow us to expand significantly on 1.14 release. With the time this is taking however, we've noticed some overcrowding problems kicking in. In the interests of public health and to prevent the spread of pestilence, we have introduced a modest, but hopefully welcomed, map expansion of 750 blocks in each direction, leading to an increase in the map area from 25 million blocks to over 42 million, an increase of almost 70%! When the server is released onto 1.14 in the near future, the map shall be expanded significantly further. See you in game!

  25. Certain members of the CedarCraft community: lebh, missatessatessy and ofLegends, have been working hard on writing a wiki with lots of helpful hints and tips for enjoying your time here with us on CedarCraft, especially aimed at those players who are new to CedarCraft. You'll find it in the menu bar up top! Alternatively, click here! The Wiki page is currently hosted externally (on Fandom) as we feel it is important that this project remains entirely community driven without input from us pesky, tinkering admins. At a later date we may host the wiki on this site (purely for continuity/cleanliness) but the importance of it being driven by community members who are not CedarCraft staff will remain the same. With that in mind, any questions about the wiki - fire them at those three! Enjoy!
